Marko Perkovic is a Croatian singer famous for his patriotic music. His concerts are a feast for nationalists. I followed him on several concerts throughout Croatia and I encountered statues of King Tomislav (the first Croatian king), pictures of the late Franjo Tuđman (the prime minister who achieved independence), fans with Ustasha tatoos, kids wearing t-shirts with the name of Ante Gotovina (a war criminal), black-clad teens with clothes similar to the Crna Legija uniforms and a fetish for the Croatian checkerboard.
